eye for an eye

Eye for an eye (and the whole world will go blind)

My non-political non-religious take on the world’s latest events

If you don’t know what’s going on in Syria, Beirut, France, Mexico, North Korea, Japan and every other country on earth, congratulations! you are not a mass media zombie, but you wouldn’t be reading this either.

Remember your parents or grand parents saying that past times were better, that back when they were young there was not so much violence in the world?

Well, times were just as bad back then, the difference is that news did not travel so fast and far as today. Do you remember what the first murder in history was? that’s right, Cain killed his younger brother Abel.

Why did Cain kill his brother? Cain resented Abel because God favored Abel’s offerings over his. That sounds like an unfair God doesn’t it? God should be thankful that they brought offerings to him –you might say…-

Guess what, he doesn’t need or want any offerings because His is the universe. He sees the hearts. Cain’s heart was not a loving heart, he was not thankful for what he had been given.

Do you know what was Adam’s “job” in the garden of Eden which to me was non other than earth itself? His duty was to be the administrator, the manager, the steward. He had one job to do, to manage God’s property. Did you know that since the beginning of time that has been every person’s job? To manage His property, because nothing, not even the socks that we are wearing, belong to us.

He gave 10 commandments that are actually sumed up in two:

  • Love thy God with all thy heart, might, mind and soul. (Not love money, power, oil)
  • Love thy neighbor as thy self.

How much better would the world be if we had this clear: Nothing belongs to us, we are here to manage it and the only two laws that matter are to love God and to love our neighbor.

But there is a twist to it. We cannot be proper administrators of what has been given to us if we don’t love others and we cannot love others if we don’t love ourselves first. This is not so complicated.

Change starts with one

The truest cliché

You can start by loving yourself. What is keeping you from loving yourself?
